HELLER RIDGE SESSIONS GOING STRONG!

Nashville, TN-Heller Ridge is a new name to some in the Country Music and Southern Rock world but, to Jason Hollis and Kevin Herrick this has been years in the making.  They have been performing on the road touring and doing session work in studios for over 28 years; and have been writing partners for over three years now creating their upcoming debut album of ten new songs, self-titled “Heller Ridge.”  “We have been perfecting these songs for a few years now and we just want to make an album full of songs that fans will enjoy for years to come.  We really started out to get our songs heard as songwriters but we decided to go ahead and put it out ourselves as Heller Ridge.” says Jason Hollis.  Working along side of the guys is platinum-selling, recording session drummer, Patrick Maley who has stepped in to play drums and percussion throughout the album.  “The guys asked me to play over a year ago and I said let’s do it!  I have known these guys for years and love their songwriting so I jumped at the chance to play.  The guys came over last week and we started cutting drums and bass at my home studio.” said Patrick.  The album is at the half-way mark now and will hopefully be completed before this summer of 2018.  “We are so excited to get this album out to folks who want to hear something that’s different than what’s on radio right now songs with strong hooks that you just automatically start singing after you hear them.  Our biggest hope is that you like it so much that you keep spinning it again and again” says Kevin Herrick.  Be on the lookout for their debut album later this year.

NEW YEAR, NEW MUSIC BIZ

I know I’m a month late for this but, I’ve been working hard behind the scenes setting up 2018.  I’m finishing my first book about Marriage, preparing new music business ventures, and finishing an album with my songwriting partner, Kevin Herrick for our group, Heller Ridge.  I’m really excited to share with you all about some opportunities that have been presented to me; more on that later.   Artists, if you need help creating, writing songs, marketing, A&R, or setting up your album for the marketplace give us a call here at Life-Line Worldwide, we want to shape artists into who they will become to further their career for longevity.  We are getting ready to celebrate our 10th Year Anniversary on February 8th of working with multiple genres of artists and labels in various capacities.  I’ve had a huge learning curve throughout the years; and it’s not been an easy task growing a business from the ground up but, with God’s help and many colleagues giving me advice throughout the years; I’ve persevered through it all and come out on the other side.  The music business has changed drastically since I began 28 years ago and I want to let you know that I do not have all the answers but, I never stop learning so that I can direct artists so that they understand how to navigate through all of the noise.  Let’s all work out our calling and put aside all of the distractions so that we can move forward and become the change that we want to see in this world.

SONGWRITING 101: CREATING AN ARRANGEMENT

Nashville, TN-Musician, Songwriter, Producer, Jason Hollis owner of Life-Line Worldwide wanted to share his take on “Creating An Arrangement” this can be written in many ways some musicians/producers do it all after the song is written and piece each part together or some do it as the song is being written.  “I wanted to let you all know that when I’m writing I’m usually thinking of the entire wide-screen picture of how I want the song to look, sound, and feel to the listener.  In the past I would write the chorus and then build the song around that but recently, I’ve been creating the intro to the song and writing from the first verse on; I hear in my head the guitars, keys, drums, strings, etc. all the way how to begin with a hook on the instrumental before a note is sung.  I work in increments from the intro, the verse, pre-chorus, chorus, if there’s a bridge, instrumental after the bridge or back to the chorus to the ending either fading out or a true ending arrangement.  At the same time, I’m thinking about the vocal arrangements on harmonies or stacking vocals on the melody of the song. I want the Country, Rock, R&B, Gospel, Jazz, or Southern Gospel that I’m recording to have that live sound like you’re in the room with me. I’ve listened to thousands of recordings and there was just a certain sound of how everything was recorded back then from The Beatles, The Rolling Sones, Led Zeppelin, Motown, The Staple Singers, Johnny Cash, The Eagles, and the list goes on and on. Now, on the Hip Hop, Electronic/Dance, or Pop I may be stacking tracks full of drum tracks, synths, samples, or vocals because that’s usually what I hear in my head; on occasion I utilize real instruments like bass, guitars, horns, or other instruments that I feel the song calls for.  As a songwriter, I literally have hundreds of unfinished songs, snippets of ideas, guitar riffs, and piano ideas galore maybe one day I’ll finish them all? I hope so but for now if something hits me I’m finishing the entire song and then moving on to the next one.  I am truly addicted to music it soothes my soul, it touches every emotion in me, it inspires me, and I hope it touches people in every walk of their lives and every situation that they are going through.  Ultimately, for me I pray that God speaks through the songs that I create to people everywhere and lives are effected” exclaims Jason Hollis.
