SONGWRITING 101: COPYRIGHTING YOUR SONGS

Nashville, TN-Songwriter, Producer, Arranger, & Recording Artist, Jason Hollis owner of Life-Line Worldwide has some information for you regarding Copyrighting your Songs.  “This is a very important step for all of you Musicians, Songwriters & Recording Artists; I want to help guide you into choosing the correct steps going forward so that you get paid for your work” says Jason Hollis.  “I grew up in the 80’s and in the 90’s when I started recording music and touring for a living full-time.  I had no idea what publishing, copyrighting, muchless how to read a contract so I knew what I was signing up for.  Well, I’ve learned a lot since then, and I wanted to share my findings” says Jason Hollis.  First of all, when copyrighting your songs, go to the Library Of Congress website: www.loc.gov from there click on US Copyright Office which will take you to www.copyright.gov.  Next, click on Register a copyright and then click on Performing Arts Music, Lyrics, Sound Recordings, Scripts, and Stage Plays.  Once on this page, it gives you a list of categories that are generally used under Performing Arts.  Recently, Jason and his songwriting partner Kevin Herrick went to go  copyright ten new songs; after calling and researching on the website; they found that the  first step to take is to copyright the songs themselves by choosing the option of Works of Performing Arts or PA as most industry folks like to call it.  Secondly, if you are recording a project or album to put out as a physical or digital format you’ll need to go back in to protect the copyright of the “Sound Recording.” “This was news to me! I had never fully understood this portion of the copyright laws.  As soon as I learned about this portion of the business as a songwriter I knew that I had to share my newfound knowledge with others.  I just really want to share my findings along the way so that others behind me can learn. I’m sure that there’s a lot more that I’ll learn going forward in this process and I want to caution you all; I’ve been in the music industry most of my life and I’m still learning new things all the time.  So never stop learning! I hope this sheds some light on Copyrighting songs.  God bless you all.” said Jason Hollis. This is just the beginning of the process so when you actually get someone to “cut” your song for their project as a songwriter there is a whole other process which we will talk about later; but for now this will hopefully get you started following your dreams.

END OF THE DECADE: LIFE-LINE WORLDWIDE

Nashville, TN-Wow! Is another decade really coming to a close?!!  Time sure has a way of rolling on when we were just there yesterday, right?  As I look back on this decade it’s been incredible times of highs and lows; defining again the many ways that God has richly blessed our Life-Line Worldwide family.  I have personally gone through alot in the music business with changes and rearrangements through learning and relearning new ways to release music to the world.  Getting it out to people of all walks of life and fans has never been easier; there are social media platforms, digital music platforms, and direct websites to get music into the hands of millions!  I’m writing music, working on albums in sessions and A&R with different artists. I’ve been on mission trips around the world which has completely shifted everything in my life.  I’m now an official author with my first book about marriage coming out in 2020 and I’m already working on the second book about hearing God’s voice for yourself in everyday life.  I never asked for it but when I said yes to God, he has opened my heart and mind to write.  The coffee company that I’m involved with is growing and growing every year; District Roasters is based out of Houston, TX and it’s really a labor of love because we get to give back to the countries where we purchase the beans from.  We are looking to expand even more this next year.  I want to say a big thank you to all of the artists, clients, friends and family who have been a part of our journey these past twelve years.  There is so much more I believe that God wants to do in our lives and I’m looking forward to the next chapter of this journey we call life.  God bless you all.
